Title: Spirituality 103 The Forgiveness Code
Author: Ivan Figueroa-Otero
Genre: Spirituality, Self help
Spirituality 103 is the third in a series of books on Spirituality that explain how to navigate life. Through elaborate metaphors and a deep analysis, the author presents a paradigm of compassion and forgiveness that would help to heal our wounds and recognise our light in the shadows.
I picked up the third book in the series, very enthusiastic about the fact that the book talked of solving our life’s conundrums through practicing forgiveness, not only towards others but also towards the self. Unfortunately, this was almost the only thing that I took away from the book for the entire book sets up elaborate theories and the real message gets lost in the wordiness and the complicated presentation of the ideas.
The main message is of compassion and yet there is a discordant note of battles and warriors that made it very difficult for me to wrap my head around the calm and patient parts that talked of compassion.
To its credit, the book has an interdisciplinary approach, that ties together religion, philosophy and science. The Glossary at the beginning of the book is so promising; there is so much clarity regarding the concepts that it made me very eager to move on.
Each chapter is followed by exercises and homework which is helpful in putting it all into practice but I found those too sweeping and too subjective.
For the ordinary reader, it would be difficult to relate to the concepts. For a seeker, perhaps, it would be better if he is well versed with the philosophy presented in the book.
There are plenty of metaphors used in the book. While they are interesting on their own, they seem to be clashing at times and make things more confusing rather than clearer.
A book of wisdom, which would benefit from a better presentation of the subject matter and simpler language.
